I wanna ask about the transportations around Belize? Are the places and tourists destinations accessible to different types of transportation? And about the fares and rules regarding the matter as well. Thanks.

When you are on the mainland you can rent a four wheel drive suv for about 50 a day during the high season and 35 a day in off season - if you rent a vehicle be sure and note any damage to the vehicle before driving off and be aware that gas is 5 dollars a gallon US as of 12/2007-- -- the highways are in ecellent shape (except the coastal hwy) but all roads off the main highways are dirt and in poor condition - - the road in and out of Placencia is horrible (and dirt) - - public transportation is reliable but VERY slow - - and cheap - - - on ambergris caye the main mode of transportation is by golf cart or bicycle and then by foot - - and very easy to get around - - golf cart rental on the cayes runs about 50 a day US - - - a bike can be rented for under ten dollars US and your feet were given to you by the good lord above - - lol lol hope that helps

Do they have taxis in Belize?

From your statement Robert of Texas public transportation looks good but when you said they are rather slow, it made me say that it really sucked. Why aren't there ay reliable taxis around Belize?
I would also like to know if there is taxi transportation around Belize?
There are many, many options for transportation in Belize. While the country of Belize is up-to-date with modern aircraft and motor vehicles, there is still a sense of a tropical island, with options of golf carts, electric bikes, and water craft. Some modes of transportation in Belize are better in some areas than others. Naturally, on most of Belize’s’ Cayes the best way to get around would be via water taxi or golf cart.isit the link below or more info.

I would assume there is at least taxi transportation in Belize. I mean this isn't a country where the automobile hasn't even been introduced yet! Think before you ask a question like that!

Of course they have taxis in Belize..Each of Belize's cities has its own taxi companies and fare schedules. Still, you'll find that a few things remain the same:
*Taxis are easily identifiable by green plates indicating their status as an official taxi.
*Remember to negotiate the fare before you get into the taxi.
*Taxi drivers will often attempt to get the attention of tourists.
*Taxis in Belize never have meters.
*Small children are not required by law to be restrained in a child safety device, and taxis will not provide them to those who wish to use them as a precaution. If you don't feel comfortable traveling in a moving vehicle without a car seat or booster seat, make sure to bring your own from home.

There should be enough taxis to choose from. In other places, they are normally distinct by yellow lines. Then again, that post dates back to about two years ago; a lot should have happened since then. A majority of countries in the world have public transport as the most utilised means. A few people will normally be able to access private options. It should be easy getting around the place depending on the hospitality of the people

Here is what i got from the netCabs cost BZ$7—BZ$10 for one person between any two points in the city, plus BZ$1 for each additional person. Outside the city, and from downtown to the suburbs, you're charged by the distance you travel. Traveling between the international airport and any point in the city (including the businesses and hotels along the Northern Highway) is BZ$50. There are no meters, so be sure to agree on a price before you leave. Authorized taxis have green license plates. You can find taxis at Market Square or by Swing Bridge, or larger hotels will call them for you.

This is what I got about transportation in Belize. Pretty much but it states that you could move around Belize through their Bus System-Buses that can operate on the highway in the Southern Zone are: James Bus Line, Usher Bus Line, G-Line Service.
-Buses that can operate in the rural areas of the Southern Zone are: Chen Bus Line, Yascal Bus Line, Smith Bus Line, Richie Bus Line, Martinez Bus Line, Williams Bus Line, Radiance Ritchie Bus Line, Polanco Bus Line.
-Buses that can operate on the highway in the Western Zone are: National Transportation Services Limited, Guerra’s Bus Service, D and E, Shaw Bus Service, Belize Bus Owner’s Cooperatives (B.B.O.C.).
-There was no change in the runs in the Western Zone’s rural area at this time. The Northern Zone bus runs continue as they are at this time, with the exception of the Ladyville Shuttle Service which will now be provided by Skai’s Bus Line, Flores Bus Service and Ramos Bus Service.

More of the subject matter:One of the reasons buses are so popular is that they are extremely affordable. Trips usually range from $2.50(USD) to $11(USD). This is also the same form of transit used by most of Belize's residents, meaning your journey will be a cultural one, and you'll be paying the same as the locals for your transportation. This also means that those who are traveling on a tighter budget can get to many different locations around the country.

I have not the slightest clue about transportation in Belize, be it the best form of it, or be it the worst form of it, but I can say, however, that it would more than likely range from, personal taxis to public buses over in this magnificent country.
Comment #16 Eve (63.176.159.211) - 12/10/09 17:59
Am I correct? If not, I would surely love to be disproved, as well as learn about the means of transport that exist in this country.

"What is the major form of transportation in Belize?"
There isn't really one major form of transportation in Belize, but rather several. Buses are very popular among Belizeans for their affordability. On Ambergris Caye, cars and trucks aren't generally allowed, so they use golf carts for the most part. On the cayes, different forms of water transportation are obviously the big ones. There is also a decent airplane network throughout the country. For more info, check out Paradise Hunter's article on this subject.
Comment #18 Bino (63.176.159.234) - 12/19/09 20:50
It would be a little sad if the mode of transportation on a certain country would be monopolized by one kind of vehicle. There are several ways to explore the city streets of Belize, just like post number 17 said. I have to say that i would certainly try the golf carts, that would be a lot of fun.
Guess I have to read the post more. Bye bye.

Helicopter transfers are another available form of transportation in Belize, and can operate between the international airport, local airports and private heliports throughout the country. There is one helicopter company in Belize - Astrum Helicopters. The company offers helicopter adventures, transfers and chartered flights to many of Belize's attractive destinations.

Wow, I owuld certainly love to try riding on a helicopter. I wonder how much would a ride cost me and my two young daughters. I love to travel and Belize would be my next destination if ever I happen to have time for a vacation. Please post here some ideas on where to go when in Belize. I would surely appreciate your ideas here. Thanks a lot guys. Hope to hear from all of you soon.
Comment #21 Evie (63.176.159.190) - 01/24/10 21:05
I bet that helipcopter ride is expensive. But disregarding your expenses and to just think of the things to try in that country are all worth it. If I have the means and the time at this very moment, I am sure to fly in Belize with my family and have a vacation there. But anyway, I just have to wait for the proper time for me to visit that place.

There are indeed lots of good ways to roam around in Belize, and guess what, try walking. Just kidding, but hey, walking is good way to see things and at the same time an effective way to exercise those lazy feet of yours. But be sure you are wearing a good shoes and have a walking buddy so you can have someone to talk things up. Have a nice day.
