Hi David,

In my English lesson IŽd pleased to answer your question about retirement in Argentina.

I would consider the necessary income to rent a 2 bedroom apartment, have medical insurance, and everything including food, maintenance o a house in a nice area, restaurants, medical ins. etc por 3 people, will cost you ranging from U$S1.500 or U$S2.000 a month.

English private schools start at about U$200 per child.

If I can help you with any other recommendations, please let me know.

Regards.

For years, I've been interested in South America. Now that I'm close to retirement, I'm considering living abroad. Can you give me accurate information about the cost of daily life in Argentina. My understanding is that Americans aren't safe in that country. I grew up in Texas. I'm drawn to the Latino culture. I've been considering Mexico, as well.............although, Mexico doesn't cozy up to white Americans, either. I will have approximately $2,000 dollars per month of retirement income.

Any information you can provide will be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

(1) Are pensions earned outside Argentina taxed by Argentina?

(2) Must a visa for a retired person be requested in his country of origin or can it be requested in his country of residence? In my case, I am a US citizen but I reside in Costa Rica and have not been in the USA for years.

Thank you!

I currently live in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines and am considering a move to Argentina to continue with my retirement years. I would most appreciate communicating with an American ex-pat living in Argentina for general information on visa requirements, long-term stay restrictions, medical services, housing, etc. Thanks very much, Jame

I am a single 64 year old and interested in learning about retirement in Argentina. Visa requirements, rental housing costs (very small studio or 1 bedroom), and is it possible for one my age from the us to purchase health insurance in argentina?

Go and visit for 6 months or a year.. if you like it then you'll have had plenty of time to track down the info you need... and remember most of Argentina is NOT tropical and the southern areas make make you wish for a northern Canadian winter!

I suggest that you should consult your local immigration department before you make such decision.
