Hello, we are ready for some fun in the sun. We are looking to retiring in Mazatlan or on the coast somewhere.

Anyone out there that can offer some advise...we have checked into the visa, etc.

We are planning on buying a condo. Whats it like in Mazatlan for retires?

Can't give you a lot of information about Mazatlan but I can help if you are considering Puerto Vallarta

puerto Vallarta is a nice place to move to, I had a couple of friendd out there who had family members who bought condos there and the scene is awesome for what it's worth.

I can also vouch for Puerto Vallrta! Large expat community there - and no hassle for being a Gringo... You'll love the beaches - and yes, they even have a Walmart... All the comforts of home.. ;)

Isn't the concept of traveling or being an expat inherently a concept of "being away from home" and therefore something that should be different?

ie: we should seek out those places where there is no "Walmart" or "McDonalds" so during our travel we actually experience the other country's culture and not our home culture in a different place?

You have a good point! I would be terribly disappointed to see the same stores and deal with the same "cultural markers", for lack of a better term, once I chose to live outside of my home culture.

It would cheat me out of the growth experience I should be grappling with.

I love mazatlan. I am currently a part of a development just south of mazatlan that is very nice. The name of the development is Estancia at Playa Caimanero it is a beachfront gated custom home community with lots of amenites.
