I'm curious, has anybody retired or tried to retire in the Philippines? How was your experience? Did you regret your decision? Or are you happy with the decision to retire in the Philippines? Trackbacks

I would speak for my parents if that is ok. My mom is a pure bred Spanish and my dad is of a Greek descent. They retired in the Philippines nearly 3 decades ago. They had my sisters and brother raised here, and me as well as the youngest. As far as I know, my parents love living here, or if not we might have live to another country. A lot of compensation and privileges are the best things a retiree will get. So I guess the Philippines is a great country to retire. Hope that makes sense to you.

Yes....I tried retirement in the PI in 1985 with my PI wife and 1 yr old daughter and it was a disaster!!! I lasted less than 2 years on Cebu...I bought a small farm before retiring about an hour out of Cebu City along the coast in a small waterfront barrio. I also bought & operated a losing proposition nightclub in the city. The uncontrolled corruption and the family sucking me dry of funds led to my retreat back to America. This is to say nothing of the lawyer that put a hit out on me because I sued him for trying to take advantage and profit from an auto accident he caused. It's a long sad disgusting story that I could write a book about....and eventually my PI wife ran off with a filipino lover in the US.
