We too are in the dreaming phase of heading to Belize. How long have you been planning this and where are you going?

My partner and I are going to Belize (San Pedro) in February 2008 and are considering a move there. Please post your experiences! I'm especially interested in the drive down there. Enjoy!

Bring you own car, secure some hard cold cash on your pockets, enjoy and good luck on your trip.

What are the tourist's hot spots and vacation destinations there for the whole family. I am planning to have a vacation over at Belize and trying to gather information about what Belize has to offer. Hope you can respond to this message, a link to a web site or travel site is recommended. Thanks.

Me and my husband are planning a retreat this August.Hope we can live through the dangerous paths going to that paradise. Hmm I think we will just take a private plane to be sure rather than in land where thugs might linger.

OK, We´ll try to get you some info: English is the official language, even though at last count there were ten different languages in the country, including Mayan. It used to be called British Honduras, but changed it name in 1981 as Britain gave it its independence. The territory is claimed by Guatemala as its own, but Guatemala has agreed with Britain that it will leave things alone. It is a member of the British Commonwealth of Nations and I believe the currency is the British Pound Sterling (not sure). The main industry is agriculture and it is a democratic country with two mayor parties. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Interesting accounts of adventure travel in here. If you plan to travel to Belize any time soon, you need to first be sure of what factors you are pre-disposing yourself to.The hot spots can be found in any travel website but I am not sure I would worry myself about that until I was sure I had done enough to secure transport to the place.
There is more on the country in the link below

Nice pick of location here is what i got from the netBelize’s currency, the Belizean dollar (BZ$), has been fixed for many years at US$0.50, although talk of a devaluation is never far beneath the surface. The currency bears the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the dollar is divided into 100 cents. Coins come in denominations of one, five, 10, 25 and 50 cents and one dollar; bills come in denominations of two, five, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars. The 25-cent coin is sometimes called a shilling, and you may hear the 100-dollar bill referred to as a ‘bluenote.’
Or better yet, go to lonely planet for more info

I can only say to go with the flow. Whatever it is that made you decide to made the move, it's something that is a driving force in your life and you probably need to listen to that side of yourself a bit more often than not. Though many do not believe in instincts, but more in experience, instincts can surely mean a lot in situations as such.

I would trust my instinct for many a thing, but for such a move, however, I must beg to differ.

"Friend of belize"
I too traveled to Belize (from New Jersey) by car...It was the best trip ever...I have been to belize 7 or so times...my longest stay was last winter for 4 months and I loved every second and cried when it was time to leave (even coming home to my love and family)...We traveled the east coast of Mexico and it was beautiful the roads were good amd noone tried to cheat us...This past Nov we flew into Guatemala and rented a car and drove to Belize...that to was a must do trip for all you adventurers...On our return we chose the 6 hr overnight express bus (different & not bad).Visit Cayo District while your there it's the best place to enjoy the sites of Belize not being on the beach. Be sure to ask about the not so traveled sites...there are many and ussually better and cheaper than the "big" tourist attracts. Good luck, Bring your own t.paper through Mexico! And Purell on the seat worked great too.

There are indeed lots of must see and must do in this country. Lots of my friends have already visited this place and they all have the same comments regarding this place. And I must say that I am really interested in visiting this country. Are there any national parks in this place? I would like to know more about the must see in this country. Thanks a lot and have a nice day.

Regarding your post Robin, I have here a link that have a list of the national parks in Belize, here is what it has to say:This guide explores the most popular state reserves, covering all the main habitats, from all areas of the country - from spectacular Toledo District to the forest highlands of Mountain Pine Ridge, to the stunningly coloured coral of the reef, atolls and cayes.
It's written for Belizeans and visitors alike, and keeps all types of budgets in mind, whether you're out for the weekend, a back packer wanting to experience the real thing on a shoestring, or a retiree looking for a guided tour in air conditioned comfort.
