I am trying to do some research on moving to Belize and would appreciate any input from expats currently or formerly living there.

Why would you want to move from Dallas? With a pro football team like that, I would never leave! Go Cowboys!
Well.. "Texans" would be the obvious reason! That is why I would leave Texas and FAST.But this forum is about Belize.. and the reason I would move to Belize is NOT for Americans. I would want to live someplace where there are not too many Americans in Belize.
The idea of living in a foreign country is to experience a new culture and a new way of life. You can't find that inside a gated community full of Americans.

I would not move from Dallas. I have visited Belize and it was cool but, it is not worth moving to from dallas.

Can anyone give me advice for my soon to come move to Belize?

I'm sorry Jake, I can't really answer your question, but I need to call someone out on his reply. Terrell, the Cowboys are the biggest reason to leave Dallas and head on over to the Steel City, otherwise known as Pittsburgh! I hear they have one heck of a team there!

Seems to be a lot of interest in Belize. People are on the go, now a days. Everybody is looking for a better place to live and raise their children. The big northern cities are becoming "concrete jungles" that smother people and are full of dangers, especially for young people. Belize seems to be (look at the link) a good offer. It has some very important things: nature in abundance, about the best (only) natural rain forest left in the area today, relatively low population, no big cities, semi-rural invironment, contact with the sea for recreation, sea-food, etc. Plus the government is "user friendly" and the people are still open and hospitable. What more can you ask for?

True Kim, people are always on the lookout for a different kind of lifestyle, one that draws you away from the norm. It is often said that that safe and different haven can always be found but what happens when you get used to a place? You search for 'greener pstures?'I do not know how true that might be but it has been said traveling as a group while in Belize helps a lot.

Here is what i got from the netSince it is still a part of the developing countries, the cost of living in Belize is considerably lower compared to the United States and other Western countries such as Canada and Australia.
To calculate or get an approximate of the average cost of living in Belize, you have to assess the kind of lifestyle you intend to live while staying in the country. Are you going to start a business? What type of living arrangements are you going to prepare? Are you going to shopping for possible real estate properties? These questions and such will help you determine the factors which will affect your living expenses.

For me, considering that the cost of living in Belize is low compared to some other countries should not automatically make us think of moving there too fast. Just think of the consequence it will take for you when you do that.

You have a point there Ernesto, there are indeed lots of good stuffs in the said country but people should also be aware of the consequences that they can encounter. Try to know first what you really and if you really do like to relocate. I am also retiring soon and thinking of moving in some other place. And I must admit that Belize is one of my choices. Good day.

I can say that lots and lots of people are flocking Belize. I do not have lots of knowledge about this country but I can say that when I find the time to do so, I would surely visit the said country and have a wonderful stay. I am not thinking of relocating but I would just want to be there for fun and enjoyment. Have a great day people.
