I am hoping someone can help me out here. I am seriously considering moving to San Pedro. I have done a good amount of research but am unable to pinpoint how much I would need to earn to live somewhat comfortably on San Pedro. I don't need the care, boat, and other luxury items... just what's a decent monthly income for 2 people to live on. There would be no rent. So, just basic utilities, cable tv, maybe a weekly dinner out, and a little money to spare for savings to fly back home from time to time or for a rainy day.
If anyone could help me out on this I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hello, I am a medical student in Canada. I am trying to contact one of the medical clinics or physicians on Ambergris Caye so that I can discuss the possibility of working under them for a few weeks this summer (2008).
All contact information I have found thus far has proven to be inaccurate.
If anyone on the island has these contact numbers or email addresses and would be willing to forward them to my attention, I would be extremely grateful.
My email address is swhibley@telus.net or coreneboe@hotmail.com
I hope to hear from someone soon.

did you try looking this information up on the net, if you look it up on there, it should be able to tell you everything you want to know.

Romie if I were you I would try blogging some more to find someone who lives in that area to find out what you are asking.

I would also do what Cathy suggest and try blogging some more, or come in contact with someone from San Pedro to ask them about daily expenses, and about how much it would cost you to live there without all the expenses.

I am sure if you factored in what professional line you have specialized in, you would be able to determine how you would fare on in San Pedro. I presume you are planning to move out with your partner..make her too a part of the brainstorming. Nowadays, the net has made almost everything accessible so just try a google search on the cost of living and other expenses costs

If you do not care about the luxury cost of livig then why bother yourself with the basic needs you will be spending at?Here are typical costs for selected items in Belize. All figures are in US dollars. Note that as in any country prices for the same item may vary from vendor to vendor.
The traditional view is that Belize is the most expensive country in Central America, yet one of the least expensive in the Caribbean. While there’s truth to that, it really doesn’t take into account that the actual cost of living in Belize can vary from almost nothing to very high.
Check out this link with the list of the primary items there

That's wrong with Philadelphia, why move to ambergis caye, I know most of the poorest country want to live and migrate to either US, Canada or Europe, then do Americans either want to retire somewhere in South America or Asia. I just wonder why.

"Cost of Living in Belize"
The cost of living varies greatly depending on your lifestyle. Many utilities are controlled by monopolies, which drives the prices up considerably. A land line phone can cost anywhere from US$10 to US$50 a month, and internet service starts at around US$50 and can go as high as US$250 a month. Hope that helps! Here's some more info to get you started on your search. Good luck!

"Lots of info on living in San Pedro"
You can find a ton of what you are looking for on Tacogirl's Blog. Can't post a link but if you google tacogirl blog you'll find it. She has lived in San Pedro for 4 years. An expat from Toronto. Often she will post grocery shopping totals, doctor visit costs etc.

Just be sure to research the location very good prior to making the move. This is a seriously life changing jump that you are willing to make here. Especially if one is from a more suburban kind of area and has not yet been exposed to the harshness of real life situations and so forth.

I have to agree with that Eve. I think that Romie should research more, or try to just make himself ready on what he would be facing as he move. But anyway, let us just wish him good luck.

Certainly so, I think that travel is something that needs careful attention, and without any doubt, whatsoever.

It's always good to see other things, places and people of the world, and even especially so, when it is that one is a writer by profession.

Yeah, a beautiful country like Belize would be a very good inspiration for artists. I would also want to be in the said country and see all of those wonderful places, though I am not an artist. But anyway, back to what we are talking about, this country is a sure hit for artists. Anyway, have a great day guys and just keep all of those posts coming. Keep safe.
