Starting a business in Belize Hi, My name is Sharon and I am really considering a move to Belize within the next year. I own a business here in the states and I import the goods I sell from the East. Is it very expensive to import goods into Belize and what are some of the laws for foreigners owning and operating a business in Belize? Also will be looking to purchase a small home for myself, my husband and two children. Is it expensive? Really do not want to live too close to the beach. Thanks.
Hi Sharon, We have just moved to Belize 2 months ago. We have almost completed all paperwork needed to setup a business and get work visa's. It is not to bad to start up a business. You will need to live here to get it done. You will need to find a good company to help you set all this up.
I am also moving to Belize. I work as an RN in Colorado and am looking for a job opportunity in nursing.I have purcahsed land in Dangriga, Stann Creek District. I know there are two hospitals and am having trouble finding them online to submit resume and application. Mailman Rob in San Pedro, please write to let me know anything that you can about living in Belize. I do know there is a need for lawyer and some monies to be paid, but am getting close to that time.
Martha, have you been to Belize yet? The hospitals are very small... just a few beds in each ward, and it will be very difficult for you to get a job. If you do, it will pay a tiny fraction of what you get paid in Colorado. You may want to consider setting up your own private nursing care business, and get the proper licensing from the medical board to do it. You may find there are expats who prefer home care to going to the hospitals, and they might be able to pay more than the local population.Good luck!
